OCEAN CITY, Md.- The Ocean City Brewing Company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection late last year and its equipment is set to go to public auction next month.

The brewery opened in 2014 on 56th Street under the ownership of Joshua Shores. In 2017, Shores was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a $2.5 million scheme where he sold counterfeit sports memorabilia.

Federal prosecutors said Shores bought counterfeit sports jerseys in bulk from China and signed fake autographs of famous sports athletes to them. He then sold them online for money, according to prosecutors.

There were talks of Ironweed Ale Werks possibly re-branding OC Brewing but those plans were squashed with the auction announcement.

A myriad of brewing and kitchen equipment will be liquidated during the Feb. 19 auction.
